We receive many questions on what exactly Hydroseeding is and the benefits of Hydroseeding. We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions below for you to review and have your questions answered. If you still have questions, please send us a message and we would love to help you!

What is Hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is an efficient seed planting method that sprays a combination of seeds, mulch, water, and fertilizer from tanks over large areas. This process prevents soil erosion while also promoting the growth of grass.

Hydroseeding vs. Sod?
There are many questions on whether Hydroseeding or sod is better for your yard. Sod will give you the perfect yard in as little as one day, however, if you have the time to wait a few weeks, Hydroseeding will give you the same picture-perfect yard that sod will with a fraction of the cost. Hydroseeding is known to be a bout 75% less expensive than sod. If you have the time to wait, we recommend you investigate Hydroseeding your yard.

Can you Hydroseed over existing lawn?
No, it is not recommended that you Hydroseed over an existing lawn. We would recommend that you completely remove the existing grass and turf if you would like to Hydroseed the area. If you decide to remove the existing grass, we suggest that you have the soil turned over and have the surface raked flat – the surface does not need to be packed down.

When is the best time to Hydroseed?
For the best results, we would recommend that Hydroseeding be done between March and November.

What type of grass is used in Hydroseeding?
Any type of grass can be used for Hydroseeding. We can recommend specific types of grass based on the area, but please let us know if you have a particular type of grass you would like to use.

What is the process?

What is in the Hydroseed mix?
There are several elements included in the Hydroseed mix which includes water, seed, fertilizer, mulch, and other additives. These elements are mixed into a tank and is sprayed over the ground.

How long does it take for grass to grow from Hydroseeding?
You will begin to see growth quickly! In the right growing conditions, you can see germination as soon as 5 days. If you continue to water and fertilize the grass then you will be able to mow your yard in 4-6 weeks. The full lawn is established in 5-6 months.

Will you come out and give me an estimate?
No – we can give you an estimate over the phone! Let us know what the total square footage of the area is, and we will be able to email you a proposal to get started.

How will I know how to care for it?
We have you covered! We will provide you detailed instructions on how to care for your grass. However, we recommend that you water your yard about 5-10 minutes per zone at least five times per day until it germinates. Once you see germination, you can then move to watering your yard twice a day for 20 minutes for 1-2 weeks. After that, you can then move to watering your yard for 40 minutes twice a week.

You will want to make sure your grass is moist and not sitting in puddles of water.

Can my dog or child go on the hydroseeded area?
It is not recommended that you let your dog or child walk on the Hydroseed until it is grown completely. This is about 5-10 weeks into the process. The Hydroseed is safe for them to walk on, however, it will have an impact on the amount of growth and the health of the grass. This can cause some bare spots to form in the grass.

It doesn’t look like it is growing. Will Green Lawn Service come examine the grass?
You must be patient and trust the process! We will not need to inspect the hydroseed in the first 15-20 weeks if you are following our care instructions. You may see some areas grow quicker than others – which is normal! Some areas may receive more sunlight than other areas which allows the grass to grow quicker.

Will the green/blue color from the Hydroseed go away?
Yes – it will go away! It may have gotten on your foundation or walkway, but it will fade away within a few days. You can also use a garden hose to wash off the stains.

We hope these questions have been helpful to you and that you understand the Hydroseeding process better. However, if you still have further questions, please email us at info@greenlawnservicetn.com
